Itapevi is a municipality in São Paulo, defined as a dormitory town, as families are forced to seek jobs in central São Paulo, resulting in high rates of unemployment, low pay and per capita income on the line of extreme poverty.
The area has issues, such as poor education, poor housing, poor sanitation, lack of clean water, no electricity, public transport, health, public squares and parks for recreation and access to information rights.
Itapevi's Council is lacking in resources and seeks partners to develop social programmes for the community. In Touch Futures has launched the first of six educational play centres in Itapevi. These centres offer children a clean, safe and playful environment where they receive support from a social counsellor who develops socio-educational activities for children and their families.
